The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) sensitized the craftsmen and schools of Akim Oda on the new variant of Covid-19, as part of its first quarter activity for the year 2021.
The awareness program aimed to raise awareness of the risks associated with the new variant of the disease and emphasized the need for all to strictly adhere to precautionary measures to stop the spread.
Ms Rejoice Biscoff, NCCE director at Akim Oda, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said information obtained from the Ghana Health Service showed the new variant to be very dangerous and spreading rapidly.
She therefore called on Ghanaians to abide by safety protocols which included social distancing, wearing masks, frequent hand washing and regular checks, adding that many people would lose their lives if care was not taken.
The NCCE director also discouraged the act of stigma against recovered patients from Covid-19 and said it was best to reintegrate recovered people into society.
She mentioned post-election community engagement on good governance and peaceful coexistence, civic education on COVID-19, public capacity building to fight corruption and civic engagement to protect childhood, children’s rights and child marriage as some of the activities offered in the first quarter of the year.
