Plans are in place for 20 communities in Obuasi, Obuasi East and Adansi Akrofuom municipal districts to benefit from water and sanitation facilities.
The facilities, which are provided by the Rotary Club of Obuasi, will include the construction of 60 household micro-flush toilets and 19 boreholes.
The move is part of the efforts to improve water and hygiene conditions for the populations of the beneficiary communities.
The president of the Rotary Club of Obuasi, Mr. Sarwan Kumar, announced it during a ceremony to cut the grass for the start of projects in Adukroba in the district of Adansi Akrofuom.
According to Mr. Sarwan Kumar, the Club in Ghana has partnered with the Rotary Club of Montreal in Canada and some individual donors in the United States of America to provide basic social amenities to improve the living conditions of people. living in disadvantaged communities in the three districts.
Mr Kumar said plans have been put forward to build a neonatal intensive care unit at Obuasi government hospital to deal with neonatal deaths, which are on the rise in the municipality.
Adding that members of the Rotary Club of Obuasi are committed to helping the less privileged in society, hence the provision of boreholes and toilets to communities.
Adansi Akrofuom District Director General, Mr. Jonas Maurice Woode, congratulated the club for its partnership with the government to provide basic amenities to the population.
He said the projects would go a long way in reducing water-borne diseases and improving the general health and living conditions of people in beneficiary communities.
Mr Woode called on communities to help maintain the facilities once they are completed in order to extend their lifespan.
Mr. Antwi Boasiako, who represented Odikro d’Adukroba, thanked the Club for coming to the aid of the populations of the beneficiary communities.
