Old Tafo Municipal Director General (MCE) Fred Obeng Owusu led a team of Assembly officials to distribute face masks and hand sanitizers to identifiable groups in the municipality.
Accompanied by the deputy (MP), Mr. Vincent Ekow Assafuah, they handed over boxes of face masks and disinfectants to the management of churches, mosques, truck terminals and markets.
The donation was part of the Assembly’s efforts to encourage adherence to Covid-19 safety protocols amid rising cases of the disease.
He has also sought to intensify public education about the viral disease by encouraging behavior change in practices that serve as a breeding ground for infections.
Mr Owusu said the Assembly has provided personal protective equipment (PPE) for health workers and the general public to contain the spread of the disease since the pandemic outbreak last year.
He said there was a need to step up public education campaigns, following the increase in cases in recent months.
“We are providing this PPE to encourage people to observe the protocols which are very essential in combating the virus,” he told media at a presentation ceremony in Pankrono.
He encouraged them to use PPE to collectively win the war against the pandemic.
MCE urged clergy and Muslim leaders to encourage their congregations to take security protocols seriously to protect themselves and their families.
Mr Assafuah said the government was determined to defeat the virus, but the success of the fight largely depended on the attitude of the population towards preventive protocols.
He said Ghana was among the countries that have successfully managed the pandemic around the world since the outbreak and called on people to complement government efforts to contain the virus.
