Four suspects arrested for killing Ghanaian-Canadian in Toronto-Canada

Toronto police arrested three men and a woman as suspects who killed Ghanaian-Canadian Michael Oppong Berchie 23, in Toronto on February 8, 221.

This was featured in a press release issued and signed by Constable Jenifferjit Sidhu, Corporate Communications for Detective Leslie Dunkley of the Toronto Homicide Unit, and posted on its public website on February 16, 2021.

Toronto Police said the three suspects Kevon Shemar Foo 24, Day Juan Francis 21 and Jasanthan Kandiah, 21, all from the city of Toronto were arrested on February 13, 2021.

The three suspects were charged with first degree murder, attempted murder and discharging a gun with intent and appeared in Old Town Hall court on Sunday, February 14, 2021.

According to Toronto police, following the arrests, search warrants were executed in various locations, including one on Sunday February 14, 2021, at a residence on Kipling Avenue and West Steeles Avenue.

Constable Jenifferjit Sidhu revealed officers found 9mm cartridges and 40 caliber cartridges, an extreme magazine loaded with 9mm cartridges, an automatic Kalashnikova loaded [AK-47] rifle and a magazine loaded with 7.62mm cartridges.

She further revealed that on Sunday February 14, 2021, Jessica Madeleine Roy 20, of Toronto, was also arrested and charged with three counts of recklessly storing ammunition, recklessly storing a gun, possession unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is not permitted, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition and two counts of possession of a prohibited device.

Jessica Madeleine also appeared in Old Town Hall court on Monday, February 15, 2021.

Michael Oppong Berchie 23, Ghanaian-Canadian, was shot and killed on February 8, 2021, around 9:47 p.m. in the Lawrence Avenue West and Sage Avenue neighborhood of Toronto.

Toronto Police said they responded to a radio call for the sound of gunfire in the aforementioned city community.

Two people were reportedly in a vehicle, including a man, with gunshot wounds and when he was taken to the trauma center he was pronounced dead.

Eyewitnesses told police in Toronto that several gunshots were heard and a vehicle was seen leaving the scene at high speed and the deceased was later identified as Michael Oppong Berchie of the city of Brampton.

“Two suspects described as wearing dark clothing were observed fleeing the scene in the suspect vehicle, which was described as a light-colored four-door compact SUV.

“He was then seen moving west on Lawrence Avenue West and southbound on Dufferin Street,” Toronto police revealed as they addressed the general public, resulting in the arrest of the four suspects and the seizure of firearms and ammunition over the weekend.
