Bawku Central lawmaker Mahama Ayariga calls for an extension of the mandatory retirement age in the public sector.
The opposition lawmaker, who is also a lawyer, says he will sponsor a private member’s bill to change the age requirement in the public sector.
“Many people start family life late and their children are mostly still in school when they are forced to retire and family income is negatively affected with disastrous consequences for their children’s education. The extension of the retirement age will guarantee young people a guaranteed family income to sponsor their studies.
“With the improvement of health care and the increase in life expectancy, the current mandatory retirement age of 60 harms the civil service and the justice system and deprives them of healthy, competent people. and experienced. And many of them live another twenty years or more and become a burden on the pension system which must support them in retirement when they could actually work, ”he said during the audit of the Minister of Designated work Ignatious Baffuor-Awuah.
Meanwhile, the employment minister-designate says he is unaware of the “protocol” phenomenon in public sector recruitment.
“Hon. President to confess, I don’t know of any devil called protocol. Devil’s appeal protocol? I don’t know anything about this, but if you’re talking about favors, which people maybe looking for because of their knowledge with the manager, I have to say it creates an uneven platform for all people to compete when there is an offer. And sometimes we limit that to political appointments and all that but I must say that it is even wider than that ”.
