His visit to the region was prompted by reports of several highway thefts in a short period of time, particularly involving tomato traders who cross the region to Burkina Faso to purchase fresh tomatoes.

Traders who had come under intense attack suspended their trips demanding that security be tightened for them to ensure they are safe in the course of their business.
