Inspector General of Police (IGP) James Oppong-Boanuh has promised that highway thefts, which are on the rise in the Upper East region, will be dealt with quickly as the police department works with others. stakeholders frantically strategize to curb the hapless. even as the police continue to do their best to tackle the problem.

Mr. Oppong-Boanuh made the commitment on Wednesday February 17, 2021, after having personally visited the places where these highway thefts occurred in the Upper East region in order to find out about the nature of the places and the measures taken. in place so far.

“I will sit down with the regional police command and review my strategy and see what measures to put in place to ensure that these[robberies] don’t happen, ”he said.

He went on to say that he “will sit with them [the security agencies and other stakeholders] again. I can assure the general public that we are doing all we can and that we will do all we can to keep the public safe.

His visit to the region was prompted by reports of several highway thefts in a short period of time, particularly involving tomato traders who cross the region to Burkina Faso to purchase fresh tomatoes.

Traders who had come under intense attack suspended their trips demanding that security be tightened for them to ensure they are safe in the course of their business.
