A group calling itself “Concerned Youth of Dambai” in East Krachi Municipality of the Oti region, organized a massive clean-up exercise at the ferry disembarkation site to ensure effective cleanliness of the area.
The more than two-hour exercise was carried out at the main truck station, the “Saturday market” and surrounding areas, which were cleared of solid and liquid waste.
Mr. Jonas Kwabena Essel, the assembler of the Dambai Lakeside electoral area, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that strategies were being developed to ensure that streets, gutters and the entire environment were kept clean.
He urged traders and street vendors to be responsible citizens and to refrain from littering the area, adding that such acts of indiscipline would not be tolerated after the exercise.
Mr. Daniel Bamease, president of the Krachi East Youth Parliament, who spoke to the GNA after the exercise, called it a success.
He said that the activity’s objective had been achieved since the group had partnered with Zoomlion Waste Management to collect the nuisance of waste in the area.
Madam Adwoa Cheki, businesswoman and native, revealed that the next exercise will focus on the collection and disposal of garbage from homes, public places and the emptying of street bins.
She advised residents to keep their surroundings clean at all times and to refrain from throwing and throwing away garbage indiscriminately.
All stores were locked and businesses were put on hold until 9 a.m., when the year ended so that normal economic activities could resume.
