Three people died in a traffic accident on Friday night at Gomoa Okyereko Junction on the Accra-Cape Coast highway.

The three, all foreign nationals, were occupants of a Toyota Lancruiser Prado with registration number GN 3966-17 which was traveling from Cape Coast to Accra.

The other vehicle involved in the crash was a fully loaded truck with registration number GN 751-20 that was going from Accra to Cape Coast.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck swerved out of its lane and collided head-on with the Prado.

The accident happened a few meters from the Okyereko main bridge around 5 p.m.

The Prado, according to eyewitnesses, made several summer jumps before landing on the other side of its alley.

The deceased, a man who was the driver and two women, whose identity and nationality have not yet been established, died on the spot.

Their remains were deposited in the morgue of the trauma and specialist hospital in Winneba.

The driver of the truck and his companion, whose identity is not easily accessible, were also injured and were treated in the same hospital in Winneba.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) station officer in Winneba, Mr. Hackman Afful, told the media, with the support of some members of the Ghana Police Service, that they had succeeded in clearing the road to ensure the free flow of traffic on this section of the road.

He noted that preliminary information gathered from eyewitnesses indicated that when the truck realized it had developed a defect, the driver began to bang his horn to ward off oncoming vehicles from the opposite direction but the driver du Prado did not notice, which resulted in the head-on collision.
