Ayensuano nuclear power plant management calls for DCE removal – but DCE denies causing political defeat

Some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the Ayensuano constituency in the Eastern region called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to remove from office the District Director General (DCE), Ms. Florence Govina, with immediate effect.
They accused the DCE of campaigning against former MP (MP) Samuel Ayeh-Paye in the polls on December 7, which also led to the NPP’s appalling performance in the constituency during the election.

But the DCE, however, told the Daily Graphic in a telephone interview that it had done nothing wrong.

She said she would fully respond to the statement by the party’s constituency leaders.

“I did not campaign against Mr. Ayeh-Paye in the general election on December 7th. I cannot not do this to my own party. I am not the cause of the defeat of the regional deputy.” , she said.

Addressing a press conference in Coaltar, the constituency headquarters on Tuesday, constituency communications officer Budu Yaw Asamoah said the DCE reportedly told party members to vote skirt and blouse.

This, he said, led to Mr. Ayeh-Paye losing the seat while the party’s votes for the president also declined.

Mr Asamoah also accused the DCE of not distributing items intended for party supporters before the election, but did so after the election.

“We no longer want the WFD. It is behind the skirt and the blouse that took place during the presidential and legislative elections on December 7 in the constituency,” said Asamoah.

Mr Asamoah said the president should appoint a unifier and a development-oriented person to administer the district in order to win votes for the party in the 2024 general election.

The party, the communications official explained, was unable to win even one polling station in the DCE electoral area, including its own polling station in the presidential and legislative elections, particularly in Govinakrom primary school D / A.

For example, Mr Asamoah said at the D / A Primary Govina and D / A JHS polling stations, the NPP won 122 votes to 303 votes from the NDC in the presidential elections while in the parliamentary elections the NPP polled 129 votes against 296 votes of the NDC.
