Passion Air announces daily flights to Takoradi
On Thursday February 18, 2021, Passion Air announced that it will soon start daily flights from Accra to Takoradi from February 27, 2021. The route fare will start at GH 99 for one way.
Qatar Airways in-flight entertainment system goes contactless
As part of efforts to eliminate contact surfaces when passengers embark on their journey, Qatar Airways has announced that its passengers aboard its Airbus A350 will soon be able to control its in-flight entertainment system (IFE) with their mobile phones. By this, passengers will have to do without touching the IFE screen with their hands and instead scan a QR Code to have full control of the system.
At the moment, the airline mainly operates a Boeing 787 Dreamliner to Ghana, but it plans to integrate this new feature on this fleet soon.
Air Côte D’Ivoire takes delivery of the Airbus A320neo
Air Côte D’Ivoire took delivery of its first Airbus A320 neo on Thursday February 18, 2021 to increase its fleet of four De Havilland DHC-8 Dash 8 turboprop engines, three Airbus A319s and two Airbus A320ceos.
This addition makes the carrier the first to operate such an aircraft in the West African sub-region.
According to the airline, which operates flights between Abidjan and Accra, its initial plan is to operate the aircraft on its routes between Abidjan and Cameroon, Gabon and Senegal.
16 airlines show commitment to ensure delivery of COVID-19 vaccines
Some sixteen airlines have partnered with UNICEF to ensure the delivery of COVID-19 vaccines around the world under the COVAX mechanism. Emirates, Ethiopian, Qatar, Air France-KLM, Brussels, among others, are some of the airlines that have pledged to support this initiative called “UNICEF Humanitarian Initiative”.
As a sign of goodwill, airlines have pledged to prioritize transporting vaccines over other cargo.
The Covax Facility is a program implemented by the WHO, the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization and others to ensure the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines around the world.
Ghana COVID-19 airport test and upcoming questions
During the week, some government officials in Ghana came under intense pressure over the contractual agreement between the country and Frontier Healthcare Services Limited, managers of the COVID-19 test center at Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
For what appears to be a deal that some former ministers of state have denied knowing all the contractual details of, some aviation experts believe the reputation of KIA’s testing regime is in the state if these deals are shrouded in secrecy. .
Qatar extends free travel for healthcare workers
Qatar Airways says it has extended its free flight offer for healthcare workers to any destination of their choice by the end of March 2022. The offer offers healthcare workers the option of traveling with a companion of their choice by paying only the airport taxes.
The extension of this offer by the airline gives an opportunity to health workers who could not take advantage of this offer when it was introduced in May 2020 for 100,000 passengers. For now, the window is open for bookings by September 30, 2021 for travel before March 31, 2022.
Egyptair with discounts
Egyptair claims to offer discounts of 30% and 25% to all passengers traveling from Copenhagen (Denmark) and Amsterdam (Netherlands) respectively to one of its operational destinations.
Passengers have by February 28, 2021 to make reservations for travel by May 31, 2021 for travel from Amsterdam and March 28, 2021 for travel from Copenhagen as well.
