There’s no denying that the HTC Desire is possibly HTC’s best Android phone yet, if not the best Android phone out there.

Now HTC has released a more budget-friendly Desire-based device that should be equally successful for those who don’t have that much cash to burn.

The HTC Wildfire looks almost identical to the Desire, although a bit smaller with a different key layout.

Both have a small lip at the bottom, although it is nowhere near as prominent as that of the legend or the hero.

Underneath the small 3.2-inch display are touch-sensitive control keys that replace the Desire’s home, menu, back, and hardware search keys.

Underneath is that wonderful optical navigation key that lets you navigate seamlessly around the Wildfire.

So where have the corners been cut? Well, the first obvious place is on the screen. It’s not AMOLED like on the Desire, and it shows. It doesn’t have the same crisp, glossy finish and with a lower resolution (240×320 pixels vs. 480×800 pixels) it can sometimes feel a bit pixelated, especially when viewing text.

The smaller size also makes the native HTC browser a bit harder to use, even when pinching to zoom. What helps though is the intuitive double tap to zoom in on text and the translation and search tools that let you translate text using Google Translate or search for a term in Wikipedia in the browser itself. -even.

Well, at least Flash Lite is built in for limited Flash support.

HTC introduced a nifty feature on the HTC Wildfire that no other HTC Android device has. It’s called Application Sharing and allows you to share the apps that you have downloaded to your phone with colleagues or friends.
