LGBT + Rights Ghana’s Twitter page reported on the raid on its office in Sapele Ln, Accra.
This morning’s action follows massive calls from all walks of life to shut down the LGBT + Rights Ghana office amid wide condemnation by some influential people and civil society organizations.
Ghanaians on social media claim LGBT people are against the country’s deeply rooted culture and tradition. And those who know the laws of the land say that Article 104 of the Penal Code frowns on LGBT activities.
But members of LGBT + Rights Ghana call on all human rights organizations and their allies to denounce what it describes as “numerous attacks and hate crimes” of which they are victims.
“This morning our office was raided by national security. A few days ago the traditional rulers threatened to burn our office down, but the police did not help.
“At this moment, we no longer have access to our safe space and our security is threatened. We call on all human rights organizations and their allies to denounce these attacks and hate crimes to which we are subjected.” , the group said. on Twitter.
