Ignatius Annor made headlines for coming forward as an activist in the LGBTQI community and also a member.

His confession came as a surprise to many, as it helped dispel doubt for those who had long suspected his sexual orientation.

It was released on national television once in an interview on Joy News on Monday, February 22, 2021.

Annor said he initially denied being gay in the past for fear of losing his job and of being stigmatized and assaulted.

His confession agitated many Ghanaians as most of them could not accept that he was gay.

Annor, who had probably excited her mind for some kind of backlash, didn’t seem to care what anyone had to say.

In an Instagram post seen by Annor, he said the day he came out clean is a day he will never forget.

According to him, he would always remember February 22 as a feast day every year.

“On February 22, 2021, I openly stepped out as a black gay TV reporter. I wrote the date in my diary and it will be a feast day every year God gives me life,” he wrote.

Separately, a video emerged as officers from the Ghana Police Department moved to shut down the office run by lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQI) people in Kwabenya.

The office was closed by police on Wednesday February 24, 2021.

According to a 3news report, the owner said the occupants were no longer using the office for the purpose for which they had rented it.
