Assin-South MP Reverend John Ntim Fordjour has emphatically said Ghana needs new law to address emerging legal issues regarding LGBTIQ rights.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour said that there appear to be new nuances in emerging LGBTIQ activity in the country, which the law has not fully addressed.
According to him, the laws must be revised to bite more on the activities of LGBT groups.
When his attention was drawn to the fact that our current laws frown on unnatural carnal relationships and that LGBTIQ people have the right to assemble, the MP said, “I intend to sponsor a bill to parliamentary initiative to help outlaw all other forms of LGBTIQ issues not currently under law. ”
He argued that our customs and religions frown on LGBTIQ people. “I, being a Christian, cannot stand any such thing.”
He was speaking as a panelist on Metro Television’s “ Good Evening Ghana ”, hosted by Paul Adom Otchere, yesterday Tuesday February 23, 2021.
Reverend Ntim Fordjour further asserted that Ghana’s constitution is against LGBTIQ as enshrined in the Criminal Offenses Act.
According to him, there is no custom that supports LGBTIQ and the same cannot be accepted today or later.
He added, since LGBTIQ is something that offends the sensitivity of Ghanaians, “Our laws should be broadened to delegitimize even those who promote LGBTIQ.”
Explaining further, he said that rights are conferred on people by society, and laws are passed by every society taking into account values, culture, aspirations and history.
