The United States should “fix its own elections” rather than “lecturing” Uganda on its elections, Ugandan government spokesman Ofwono Opondo, as quoted by state-linked New Vision, said.

Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni – who has been in power since 1986 – was declared the winner in the January elections. Its main challenger, Bobi Wine, said the poll was rigged, but dropped plans to challenge the result in court.
The official results showed that Mr. Museveni obtained 59% of the vote against 35% of Bobi Wine.
