The Ghana Airport Company Limited Trade Union Congress Public Service Workers Union Divisional Union has ordered all general staff at Kotoka International Airport to withdraw from their services starting at 6 a.m. on Friday February 26, until further notice.

This, according to the union, is due to the attempt by the board of directors of the company to set aside the report of an inquiry committee which allegedly confirmed that the chief executive, Yaw Kwakwa, is guilty of mismanagement and ‘abuse of power.

The investigation committee included the Ministry of Aviation, the Council, senior management and the Civil Service Workers’ Union.

In a press release dated February 25, the union says the only way to redress the situation at the company is to remove the general manager from his post.

Until then, the general public, in particular air operators, is informed of the withdrawal of services.

The services concerned include; screening of passengers before boarding and access control, fire / security cover for all aircraft, water and wastewater treatment, public announcement and display of flights.

Meanwhile, Ghana is expected to take delivery of its second shipment of Covid-19 vaccine from India.

AstraZeneca vaccines are expected to arrive on Emirates airline.
