The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) attributed the power outage in parts of the country to disruptions in its power system.

He said gas supply problems to the offshore fields are to blame for the blackout on the night of Saturday, February 27, 2021.

GRIDCo made this known in a press release.

Parts of the national capital Accra, Tema and Kumasi in the Ashanti region were without power last night, forcing many residents to turn to social media to lament the unexpected power cut and the resulting hardship.

But GRIDCo in the press release said that it “would like to inform the general public that at approximately 6:55 p.m. on Saturday February 27, 2021, gas supply challenges from the Offshore fields, led to the loss of power supply totaling approximately 1000 MW. ”

According to the power transmitter, to avoid a total shutdown of the system, the power reduction was carried out, which affected large parts of the country.

“The gas supply has resumed upstream and the electricity supply to the affected areas will be restored shortly”, concludes the press release signed by the GRIDCo network manager for the national interconnected transport network (NITS).
