Some 43 districts identified as the epicenters of the spread of Covid-19 will be vaccinated on Tuesday.
Twenty-five districts in Greater Accra, 16 in Ashanti as well as two more in the central regions will be the first to receive the vaccines.
This was revealed on Sunday by President Akufo-Addo during his 24th national speech on the steps his administration is taking to mitigate the effects of the novel coronavirus disease.
He said that despite the start of the vaccination program in the aforementioned districts, the government has rolled out a national plan to vaccinate 20 million Ghanaians by the end of 2020.
President Akufo-Addo announced the National Vaccine Deployment Plan which determines who gets vaccinated against coronavirus disease and when.
He said that to ensure a smooth exercise, 12,471 vaccinators, 37,413 volunteers and 2,079 supervisors would be deployed for the entire vaccination campaign.
He said the population has been segmented into four groups and that will determine which part of the population will be vaccinated at any given time.
This follows the arrival of some 600,000 doses of vaccines deployed in the country to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
“From Tuesday March 2 to Monday March 15, 2021, the Ghana Health Service will begin the deployment of 600,000 AstraZeneca vaccines.
“It will be carried out in 43 districts, epicenters of the pandemic in the country. They are 25 in Greater Accra, 16 in Ashanti and two in the central region. The Ghana Health Service, from tomorrow, will provide specific details, ”revealed President Akufo-Addo.
