Over 20 million in UK vaccinated with at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine

The UK government issued an official announcement on Sunday confirming that 20,089,551 people had received the first dose, while 7,96,132,132 had received the second dose of the vaccine.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock posted a video on his Twitter account describing the milestone as a “magnificent achievement” for the country.

“I am absolutely delighted that more than 20 million people have been vaccinated across the UK. It is absolutely fantastic. Many thanks to the team, but, in particular, I want to thank everyone who showed up to receive the jab, ”said Hancock.

“We know that with growing confidence the jab is protecting you, it is protecting your community and, also, it’s the way out of that for all of us. So, a great good done to the team.

Hancock, however, acknowledged that there was “a long way to go” but insisted they were making progress in tackling the pandemic.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson echoed Hancock’s sentiments in praising the achievement while thanking the National Health Service and other entities involved in the campaign.

“20 million people across the UK have now received the blow – a huge national achievement and a testament to the tireless work of NHS staff, volunteers, the military and many more,” Johnson tweeted.

“I urge everyone to receive the jab when called. Every hit makes a difference in our fight against COVID, ”he added.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, the United Kingdom, the fifth most affected country in the world in terms of infections and deaths, has reported more than 4.1 million confirmed cases of coronavirus and more than 123,000 deaths.
