As the Supreme Court of Ghana prepares to deliver its judgment in the hearing of the petition for the 2020 election, the National Peace Council called on both parties to accept the result.
In a statement, the Council said the peace of the nation is paramount and must be protected before the interests of individuals.
“The National Peace Council respectfully calls on all parties to the dispute, the former president, John Dramani Mahama, the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as well as the Election Commission to strictly adhere to the decision of the Supreme Court regardless of who wins or loses in the judgment that has not yet been rendered, ”the peace council said in a statement.
He also urged the media, political commentators and all citizens to be cautious in their reports and discussions on the issue and to use non-violent means to address their concerns.
“The Peace Council respectfully calls on all the people of Ghana to use proven non-violent mechanisms to peacefully address any outstanding election-related complaints, either through the judicial process or by any means available within alternative conflict resolution mechanisms, ”he said.
