Farmers in the northern regional regions of the country are growing angry over reports that the minority part of the audit committee rejected the appointment of the designated minister of agriculture, the Hon. Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
They therefore threaten to organize a massive national demonstration if the minority side of the house does not reverse its decision.
In a strong statement from the spokesperson for the Farmers Forum in the Upper West Region, Alaska Kantong, the farmers called on the 137 members of the NDC Parliament to put the nation’s interest ahead of their own self-interest.
“We want to urge NDC MPs to totally reject their members’ recommendation on the designated Minister of Food and Agriculture. They should know that the majority of us who are farmers in the northern regions of the country are not satisfied with what we are doing, ”the group said.
The group further reminded the NDC that the majority of their voters stand to lose a lot if they vote against the agriculture minister-designate, adding that his rejection could mark the end of the hugely successful Planting for Food and Jobs program that they say has brought huge success to farmers nationwide.
The Farmers Forum noted that since his inception as Minister of Food and Agriculture in 2017, the nominee has always acted in the best interests of ordinary farmers through various initiatives that have improved their businesses and development. socioeconomic.
According to them, the Hon. Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto’s love and commitment to the socio-economic well-being of Ghanaian farmers is unprecedented in the history of that country, warning that any attempt to sabotage his endorsement will be fiercely resisted.
“We call on the NDC not to make a mistake that it will regret later. Because we farmers are very comfortable with the current administration of the Minister of Agriculture and there is no way to accept their decision to reject the designated Minister of Agriculture.
