Wa Central MP Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo called “calculated” and “intentional” the Accounts Committee’s attempts to prevent the return of Mr. Daniel Yao Domelevo to his post as Auditor General.
Speaking to Kwesi Parker Wilson of JoyNews from the parliamentary prosecution, the lawmaker said the obstacles placed in front of Mr. Domelevo were orchestrated by “the powers that be to frustrate him in his fight against corruption”.
His statement follows a three-page letter to Mr Domelevo from the Audit Service Commission stating that the Auditor General is due to retire on June 1, 2020 based on his date of birth.
In the meantime, Mr Domelevo is expected to resume his work on Wednesday March 3, following a directive from the Presidency in July 2020 to take his cumulative leave of 167 days.
The lawmaker who indicated he was following the chronology of events said, “I think the Auditor General got a very rough deal.
“First, he was forced to go on leave, his leave was then extended because he wanted to go to the legal and constitutional rule to ask if this leave could be relaxed for him.
“The authorities who then made sure to extend his leave.” Now the leave is over and they bring more obstacles in his way. This is a calculated intentional attempt to frustrate him and fight someone who is fighting corruption, they are fighting him, ”he said.
According to him, “corruption is a very powerful instrument of war”, and once Mr. Domelovo decides to fight it, he should be ready to face the repercussions.
“And that’s what he’s facing,” he added.
Therefore, he urged the attorney general to report to work tomorrow as scheduled, adding that the court is the only body mandated to determine the mismatch in his date of birth and not the Audit Service Board.
He also questioned the grounds on which the audit service was making its request.
“For what reasons do they say that? They haven’t walked the length and they have nothing to stand on.
“Let him come to work, then they can raise the issues. Let the case go along the way so that we know he lost the case, ”he said.
Mr. Rashid Pelpuo further stated that the action taken by the Government of Ghana and the Board of Directors stains Ghana’s image as a country that claims its commitment to fight corruption.
“It’s bad for Ghana, it’s not just about the Auditor General, it’s about people who insist that someone we all know across the country as someone engaged in corruption is fought tooth and nail to the point that it can. t go back to work, ”the lawmaker said.
