Minority lawmakers on the parliamentary appointments committee have withdrawn their consent to the approval of appointed security sector ministers.
Their decision comes after an outcry from their party, the Democratic National Congress and the Communicator, Sammy Gyamfi commenting on their disappointment.
After approving Albert Kan-Dapaah for national security, Dominic Nitiwul for defense and Ambrose Dery for the interior, the minority turned back.
A document cited on Starrfm.com by GhanaCrossing says the decision was made after the NDC raised concerns about the candidates’ alleged role in Ayawaso’s partial election violence and the killings that took place in the 2020 polls.
At a caucus meeting on Wednesday, March 3, 2021, which lasted over 2 hours, the caucus decided to withdraw its consent to the trio’s consensus approval.
The minority’s move is expected to meet strong resistance from the house’s nuclear power plants.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Dr Afriyie Akoto and Hawa Koomson have already faced the wrath of the minority on the Nominations Committee with the outright rejection of their nominations.
