The Western Region Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service, DCI / Dr. PPD Asima paid an unannounced working visit to the Elubo sector to inquire about the security situation at the borders.

Such visits are now part of its routine strategy to ensure that the western region which borders with Côte d’Ivoire is completely sealed off.

This is in full compliance with President Akufo-Addo’s directive on Sunday March 22, 2020, following the devastating Covid-19 pandemic.

Upon arrival, the Elubo Sector Commander, Chief Superintendent Joshua Krakue, informed the Regional Commander that all necessary security measures had been put in place with the Elubo Border Security Committee (BORDSEC) to deter and stop any recalcitrant travelers who may, out of desperation, resort to some of the unapproved routes.

He claimed that his officers, as well as those deployed by other commands in the region, had since the border closures supported round-the-clock patrols both at the main Elubo border and on all unapproved routes. identified in its jurisdiction.

Chief Superintendent Joshua Krakue told, among other challenges to the regional commander, that the intelligence services have exposed a cabal of canoe operators and their counterparts, who are working to thwart the operations of the security agencies.

“They are doing this by taking money from some recalcitrant travelers who carry them down the Tano River and have secured their arrest and prosecution soon.”

Despite this, he asserted his fullest commitment to the president’s decision to extend the closure of land borders, as a measure to prevent further importation of the covid-19 pandemic, particularly through western borders.

the regional commander welcomed their community engagement strategies and urged them to deepen these collaborations as “security is a shared responsibility” and must be accepted by all.

He further reiterated the appreciation of the Comptroller General and Management of SIG, as well as the Regional Command for their resilience and dedication to duty in these difficult times.
