Former Auditor General, Daniel Domelevo’s first public reaction since the Presidency’s directive to retire is interesting.
He was, in a letter signed by President Akufo-Addo’s secretary, asked to retire on the basis of an indication from the Audit Service Commission that Mr. Domelevo is over the age required to stay in the labor market.
“The attention of the President of the Republic has been drawn to the registers and documents made available to this Office by the Audit Service, indicating that your date of birth is June 1, 1960 and that, in accordance with article 199 (1) of the Constitution, your retirement date as Auditor General was June 1, 2020, ”the March 3 press release read.
Mr Domelevo took to his Facebook page moments after the letter signed by Nana Asante Bediatuo was made public and decided to sum up his thoughts in a song from the Methodist Hymn Book (MHB) 10.
“Now thank you all our God
With hearts and hands and voices,
Who has done wonders,
In whom his land rejoices;
Who, from the arms of our mothers,
Blessed us on our way
With countless gifts of love
And it is still ours today.“
The song’s connotation is unclear compared to what many Ghanaians, including anti-corruption activists, have described as Mr. Domelevo’s harassment of office.
However, if Martin Rinkart’s words of 1636 have anything to say, the former auditor general seems satisfied with his work during his tenure as a senior official of the institution.
Johnson Akuamoa-Asiedu will continue to act in Mr. Domelevo’s place until a substantive appointment is made.
Meanwhile, social media users had some thoughts on the development.
Mr. Domelevo, God bless you for caring about the interests of the ordinary Ghanaian.
It cost you your job, but you can be proud of it.
I had my concerns after your appointment at the end of 2016, but you proved me wrong.
Sorry to judge you even before you take office 🤝 pic.twitter.com/kxikU3Ynl9

I hope Domelevo will take the case to the High Court if he is not 60 and has been treated unfairly.

“I urge you to be citizens. Citizens, not spectators ”. But when you want to be a citizen, it makes you a spectator.
No wonder this speech was one of the most embarrassing plagiarized speeches. But what smell is the rot that Domelevo cannot be allowed to work and retire in June? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/NAp9vwTATA
