The Enchi District Court of First Instance adjourned a lawsuit involving a banana seller who allegedly defrauded a mobile money merchant of GH 10,810.00 in Sewum in the municipality of Aowin.
The court chaired by Mr. Eric Baah Boateng had previously granted Nafisa Dauda, 21, a bond in the amount of 10,000 GH ₵ with two sureties.
The court ordered one of the sureties to file GH ₵ 5,000.00 and must also be a resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
She is expected to make her next court appearance on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.
At the prosecution, Detective Inspector Joseph Kwadwo Agyare told the court that the plaintiff Henry Fosu and the defendants were residents of Sewum.
He stated that on December 14, 2020, at around 6 p.m., while the complainant was in his office, Nafisa approached him with his cell phone and alleged that his brother would like to send him an amount of 205.00 GH on his cell phone wallet, but the supposed brother had a network problem, so he asked him to contact any mobile money merchant for help.
Inspector Agyare stated that the accused then handed over his cell phone to the complainant and said brother reiterated what he allegedly said earlier to Nafisa and added that he would send the GH ₵ 205.00 in the form of token, which is another way to transfer money.
The complainant then informed Nafisa’s alleged brother that he was not familiar with this form of money transfer, but the accused’s brother insisted that he would help the complainant.
The prosecution said that after a few minutes, Nafisa’s brother alerted the complainant that he had mistakenly transferred a cash sum of GH 1,599.00 to his accounts, so he would have to start the process again to allow him to return the money to his account.
The prosecution stated that the complainant unknowingly transferred an amount of GH 9,211.00 ₵ into the wallet of the accused brother, for the total amount of GH GH 10,810.00.
Inspector Agyare said Nafisa did not pay the money and the complainant reported the case to the police where she was arrested and after investigations brought to court.
