National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer John Dramani Mahama says the testimony of NDC Secretary General Johnson Asiedu Nketia was taken out of context, creating the basis for the rejection of his election petition.
Reacting to the Apex Court ruling at a press conference, Mr Mahama said he was alarmed by the mutilation of Mr Asiedu’s testimony in the Supreme Court ruling.
Mr. Mahama asserted that he had followed the progress of the petition and listened to the testimony of the secretary general of the NDC with his 2 other witnesses, but “the decision that I heard today made him (Mr. Nketia) the star witness of the 1st and 2nd respondent, ”he said.
Addressing the nation after the verdict, Mahama said that “the Supreme Court has delivered its verdict, but the national debate over the dismal state of our democracy and the growing weakness of its institutions has only just begun.”
Disagreeing with the way the trial was going and the Supreme Court’s verdict, the NDC standard bearer said that “this case will go into Ghana Law Reports for the future, and academics and law students will clearly find it baffling, internal contradictions. in our case law. When the time comes, the legal team will publish detailed comments on the judgment. “
Mahama called on everyone to come together to confront those who seek to destroy the very democratic system that brought them to power, adding that it is the patriotic duty of citizens to do so.
