Aduana Stars defender Farouk Adams has been taken into police custody for two weeks for allegedly crushing a police officer to death.
Adams, 31, was in court for the first time on Thursday after being charged with two counts of reckless and reckless driving and causing damage through negligence.
He was supposed to appear in Fiapre Circuit Court of Sunyani West Municipality, but Berekum Circuit Court of Berekum Municipality is leading the case. Joy Sports can report that no reason has been given for the change.
His lordship Osei Kofi Amoako, who presided over the case, decided that Adams would be kept in custody for fifteen days so that the investigation could continue.
Adams will return to court on March 18.
Lawyer Baffour Akoto, who represented Adams in court, was happy with the ruling, saying his client would be safe in police custody instead of basic custody, which was an option for the court.
He revealed that he pleaded in court for Adams to be released on bail, but prosecutors insisted the footballer was at risk of absconding.
How did Adams get in trouble with the police?
Adams was arrested on Tuesday March 2, 2021 for allegedly running over a police officer and letting him die.
The incident allegedly occurred on Monday evening, between Asuotiano and Asuhyiae in the Dormaa East district of the Bono region.
The agent, Constable Amos Mattey of the Wamfie Police Station, reportedly left his workstation to buy something, but never returned until he was found dead on Tuesday morning.
