National Democratic Congress (NDC) head of national communications, Samuel “Sammy” Gyamfi, was tipped to be on the path to destroying his young political career with his unguided statements.
According to political analyst Dr Isaac Brako, the statements made by the young politician against MPs and the NDC chairman after the House voted to approve the nominations of some of the nominees rejected by the nominations committee are dangerous.
Dr Brako noted that Sammy Gyamfi is young in the party and could end his political career by sparking the discontent of NDC deputies and other party leaders. “Former President Mahama will be leaving the active political scene soon after 2024 and Sammy Gyamfi will find himself with the same people he is speaking out against. What he does is dangerous; does he want to divide the party or unite it?
He must learn from the examples of Koku Anyidoho and others. Koku was a powerful man under the Mills administration but now look at him he has lost all his influence in the party, ”he said in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show broadcast on e.TV Ghana and Happy98.9FM.
The academic made the remarks after Sammy Gyamfi described the speaker of parliament and the NDC leadership in parliament as being disloyal to the party.
Specifically calling on Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu and Asawase MP Muntaka Mubarak Sammy Gyamf said: “Comrades, the betrayal we have suffered at the hands of the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, the leadership of our parliamentary group, in particular the Hon. Haruna Iddrissu and the Hon. Muntaka Mubarak, and dozens of our own MPs, is what forces me to work hard to bring the great NDC back to power.
They bravely challenged the party leadership and betrayed the collective good for their selfish interest. And we must not let them succeed in their parochial quest to destroy the NDC, the party that has done so much for them and for all of us. The shame they brought to the party will forever hang like an albatross around their necks ”.
His accusation comes after NDC MPs on the Parliamentary Appointments Committee endorsed Defense Minister-designate Dominic Nitiwul and later approved three other designated ministers who were rejected when they were presented to the House.
These nominees are Minister of Information Designate Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Minister Designate of Food and Agriculture Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto and Minister Designate of Fisheries and Aquaculture Hawa Koomson who had previously been rejected by minority MPs on the Nominations Committee.
The Minister-designate of Food and Agriculture, Dr Afriyie Akoto, polled 53.96% with 143 votes out of 265 ballots issued with a canceled ballot.
Mavis Hawa Koomson also got 60.75% with 161 votes while Oppong Nkrumah got 58.65% with 155 votes.
With the Ghanaian parliament still made up of 137 NPP MPs, 137 NDC MPs and one independent candidate, this shows that some MPs on the NDC side voted to endorse the appointed ministers.
He, however, urged party supporters not to lose their love for the party with this betrayal.
“These are tough times for all of us, but we must not let the betrayal of a few stifle our love for the great NDC. Instead, let him strengthen us to fight for this party. We all have an equal interest in this party. They are few, there are many of us. Some have sold their conscience but ours is intact. And we can work together to rebuild the party from the ashes of March 3, 2021, which I call “Black Wednesday” – Our day of self-inflicted shame.
Now is the time for us to insist on the right changes in the leadership of the NDC group in Parliament or to forget them altogether. The current leaders have lost their moral authority to lead and are not fit to sit on the front bench on the NDC side of the house. More importantly, it is high time that we understood that we do not have a Speaker of Parliament from the NDC. No, we don’t! We have a president who rode on the back of the NDC in office to pursue his own parochial agenda and nothing more. You trust them, at your own risk, ”he said in a Facebook post.
He admitted that some party members are afraid to speak out only to protect themselves and not for the party. But instructing them to prioritize the party, the politician said, “The hypocrites can choose to remain silent or even condemn us for speaking out, so they can stay on the good books of the renegades. But I and all those who are suffering from this act of betrayal will not remain silent, because we do not fear anyone and do not wish to be in their good books. While they can openly challenge party leaders and interests and subject us all to public ridicule, they can and should also be openly denounced. The NDC party is supreme and it must be purified.
Speak up, we can and must! And let no one bother us. But, at the end of the day, let’s work for the NDC with all our strength and all our strength. Don’t turn off your love for the party. Hope must not die. This storm will pass. The NDC will survive and bounce back stronger for victory. So I’m telling you, be strong!
