The Western Regional Directorate of the Rent Control Service recorded cases of low rents in 2020 compared to 2019.

A statistical report published by a senior official in the department, Mr. Courage Cornelius Sonu at the Ghana News Agency, indicated that a total of 700 cases were recorded in 2020 compared to 902 in 2019.

According to him, 520 cases in total were successfully settled by the rental office against 700 in 2019, with 50 pending cases because the complainants did not follow up their complaints against 202 in 2019.

He said 130 cases had been referred to the lower court for resolution.

Mr Sonu said 420 out of 700 cases were landlord complaints, with the remaining 280 being from tenants.

He mentioned, nuisance, recovery of property or possession, rent arrears, leakage and damage to property on the landlord’s side, with tenants also reporting instances such as inducement, collection of funds and harassment of their owners as some of the cases brought before owners. the Department.
