Six MPs sponsor MP’s bill against LGBTQI

Six MPs have issued a formal notice to sponsor a bipartisan MPs bill aimed at outlawing and criminalizing the defense and practice of homosexuality.

They said the bill would seek to further strengthen Ghana’s legal jurisprudence and existing legislation on unnatural fleshly knowledge to reflect the current state of affairs.

“We are confident that all members of this House would support this bill when it is introduced in the House,” Ningo Prampram MP Sam George, leader of the six MPs proposing the bill, said in a statement. . .

The other members are Asante Akim North MP Andy Appiah Kubi, Ho West MP Emmanuel Bedzrah and Assin South MP Reverend John Ntim Fordjour.

The others are North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Asante Akim South MP Kweku Asante Boateng, Krachi West MP Helen Adwoa Ntoso, and Kwabre East MP Francisca Oteng.

The statement follows the opening of a lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI +) rights advocacy office in Ghana and the need for a strong national response.

Mr George said he was completely taken aback by the news of the opening of the LGBTQI + office in Accra on January 31.

He said some delegates from the European Union (EU), the Australian High Commissioner, Mr. Gregory Andrews, and the Danish Ambassador, Mr. Tom Norring, among others, were present at the event.

He added that the EU on its official Facebook handle announced its participation in the event and reiterated its support for all civil society organizations supporting LGBTQI + groups.

Ningo Prampram MP described the presence of foreign diplomats at the event as “a shocking and brazen disregard for the position of Ghana’s laws on homosexuality”.

Mr. George called on the executive, through the Foreign Ministry, to call to order all diplomats whose actions were an affront to the laws and sovereignty of Ghana.

The group also called on President Alban Bagbin, as head of the legislature, to make a strong statement on LGBTQI activities, which had become a raging national discourse.

“We have no doubt that the enormous respect you demand not only in Ghana but in the world, on the basis of your many years of meritorious service to humanity, would add great impetus to the struggle to preserve what is righteous, just and holy. . “

“The future of Ghana as we know it and the sanctity of marriage depend on us. May posterity well remember us for our stand for what is righteous, ”said Mr. George.
