Ralph Gilles, CEO of the Dodge brand and chief designer of the Chrysler Group, confirmed at the Chicago Auto Show that Dodge vehicles will eventually ditch the cross grille now that Ram is a separate brand.

The Dodge brand is “going in a different way,” he said, adding that it was too late in the product development cycle to make any changes to the 2011 model year vehicles.

“We did everything we could with the cross grid,” he continued.

According to Gilles, the decision to keep the cross grille on the trucks was “obvious” since “they have it”.

While he doesn’t comment further on the stylistic direction of the Dodge brand, it’s now safe to assume that designers will be focusing on the exterior after working so hard over the past two years to improve the interior.
