First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo celebrated the achievements and contributions of Ghanaian women to the socio-economic, cultural and political spheres of the country.

According to Ms. Akufo-Addo, the annual celebration of women on March 8 continues to be highly relevant due to many pressing issues concerning women and girls; an issue that deserves to be highlighted and given due attention.
Women around the world, she said, face “an increase in domestic violence, unpaid caregiving, unemployment and poverty” as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Although women constitute the majority of frontline workers, First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo has revealed that there is a disproportionate and inadequate representation of women in the national and global political space of Covid-19.
She therefore made a clear call to help women around the world make their voices heard in political decision-making aimed at addressing the issue of gender disparity.
“The needs of women rightly deserve to be placed at the heart of measures to combat Covid-19, while socio-economic plans are purposely redesigned to improve the lives and futures of women and girls.
“Everyone must daily make a conscious effort to think, speak and act towards achieving gender parity, sooner or later, to the detriment of the World Economic Forum’s prediction that ‘none of us will see the gender parity in her life, and many likely won’t see it. of our children.
“Working for a sweet victory, with a ripple effect in the interest of all, must be the common agenda,” she added.
Ms. Akufo-Addo reiterated the need to build a gender-free society within the framework of the nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the theme of International Women’s Day 2021: “Calls for unity and focus, by both women and men in Ghana and elsewhere. ”
