ITV released a statement following Piers Morgan’s comments on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The show, which aired in the United States on Sunday night before airing on ITV last night, saw the couple discuss what caused them to step back from their royal duties in January 2020.
During the interview, Meghan revealed that there was a time when she “didn’t want to be alive anymore”. She added, “I said I had to go somewhere to get help. And I said I had never felt this before. I need to go somewhere. And I was told that I couldn’t, because it wouldn’t be good for the institution.
Morgan discussed the comments on Monday’s Good Morning Britain show, before the interview aired fully in the UK. “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word [Meghan Markle] said, ”Morgan said. “I wouldn’t believe her if she read me a weather report, and the fact that she started this assault on our royal family, I think is despicable.
Morgan’s remarks prompted mental health charity Mind, which partners with ITV on the Get Britain Talking campaign, to post a statement on social media saying they were ‘in conversation’ with ITV on “Piers Morgan’s comments about not believing Meghan’s experiences with suicidal thoughts.”

RadioTimes.com contacted ITV for comment. Their official statement read: “ITV is committed to mental health and well-being and works with our charity partners on Britain Get Talking, which aims to encourage people to talk about their mental health. It is very important that if someone is having thoughts of suicide, they should always speak up and be listened to. “
Additionally, Morgan addressed his remarks on the GMB show on Tuesday, March 9.
“When we talked about it yesterday, I said broadly, ‘I don’t believe what Meghan Markle typically says in this interview,’ and I still have serious concerns about the veracity of much of it. what she said, ” Morgan said.
He continued, “It’s not for me to wonder if she was feeling suicidal, I’m not on her mind and it’s for her to say it. My real concern was frankly disbelief and I’m willing to be wrong about that and if I’m wrong it’s a scandal that she went to a senior member of the royal family and told them that she was suicidal and was told that she could not get help as it would be a bad look on the family. If this is true a) this person should be fired and b) The Royal Family have serious questions that need to be answered. “
“But I would also add into the mix, that Prince Harry himself is at the top of several mental health charities. This begs the question – he sought help himself, he spoke openly about it – why couldn’t he, in that event, get the help she needed from Meghan, maybe through the charities it represents?
