President Akufo-Addo reads his first State of the Nation address during his second term
The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, thanked Parliament for the thorough way in which the Nominations Committee reviewed her ministerial appointments.
Delivering the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term on Tuesday, he also thanked the legislature for endorsing his nominees.
“The launch of this process was facilitated by the members of this House, and I am grateful to you for allowing the government to be duly constituted.
“The swift and thorough manner in which my ministers were vetted by the Nominations Committee, and the approval by the Plenary Chamber of each of the 29 substantive ministers, to me, was an indication of the collective resolve on both sides of the Chamber, with mutual respect for each other, to work together for the good of the country, ”he said.
According to him, this is what the Ghanaians are asking of the rulers by insisting on near parity in the House between the two major parties; NDC and NPP.
President Akufo-Addo said that the realization of Project Ghana, and not the realization of narrow partisan interests, must be the guiding principle of business in the House.
So far, 29 of its 30 appointees have been approved and sworn in for various portfolios.
Finance Minister-designate Ken Ofori-Atta has asked the Chairman of the Nominations Committee for permission to be reviewed upon his return from the United States.
He left for the United States to request a medical examination due to complications from Covid-19.
