LONDON (Reuters) – Shares of UK broadcaster ITV plc fell on Wednesday, with traders attributing at least part of the move to TV presenter Piers Morgan’s resignation from his high-profile breakfast slot after his comments on the interview by Meghan Markle with Oprah Winfrey.
ITV confirmed the departure in a statement on Tuesday.
Shares of the broadcaster fell 4.9% as the morning session began in London.
Neil Wilson, chief market analyst at Markets.com, said Morgan’s departure is weighing on the company as he expects Good Morning Britain’s audience to decline.
“We think GMB’s ratings will drop a lot,” Wilson said.
Asked about the fall in ITV stocks, another trader replied “yes, I think that has a lot to do with it”.
