The outgoing member of the Parliament’s finance committee, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, questioned President Akufo-Addo’s decision to delegate the reading of the 2021 budget to the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.
Finance Minister-designate Ken Ofori-Atta has yet to be approved for health reasons and will not be able to provide the budget.
The Department of Finance said earlier that Ofori-Atta received medical treatment in the United States after facing complications from COVID-19.
Talk to Citi NewsDr Ato Forson said the current circumstances will not soften their scrutiny of whoever issues the budget and its policies.
He noted that Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu will be put in a situation where he will have to answer for a budget that he has not prepared.
“Who is going to defend the policies in the budget statement? They won’t have it easy, I can assure you.
“We will ask questions. We will have to debate it. He will answer any questions we raise with the budget. ”
“If he’s the one who is going to read before us and present the budget to us, he should also be prepared to answer questions,” Forson said.
There were previous reports speculating that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Minister of Trades and Industry Alan Kyerematen were being considered to deliver the budget.
