Confident Akufo-Addo knew the minority was toothless – Kwesi Pratt

Insight editor-in-chief Kwesi Pratt Jnr said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was dealing with biting parliamentary opposition.

He said the president showed remarkable confidence when he delivered his first State of the Nation Address (SoNA) to Parliament yesterday.

GhanaWeb has been following his submissions on the March 10, 2021 edition of Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana. Pratt said: “The president was very comfortable, very confident. In fact, one of the things he (the president) showed yesterday was remarkable confidence, remarkable confidence.

“A confidence that could only have been sustained by realizing that there is an opposition that has no teeth. Look at how he addressed parliament yesterday, so confident, in fact, more than confident, exuberant, “he added.

Pratt added that the President knew he could tame the minority at will, hence his confidence when he appeared outside the house.

“He knew he was facing opposition that had no teeth. He knew he was facing opposition that he could tame at any time he wanted to tame, ”he stressed.

Nhyiaeso Patriotic Party co-panelist and new MP Steve Amoah, while agreeing that the president put on a confident and stellar performance during the SoNA, said the current minority caucus has no teeth.

According to him, the minority remained hard-working and committed to its legislative responsibilities. He also rejected claims that the bloc led by Haruna Iddrisu had been unduly influenced in the recent vote on three ministerial appointments.

“How can people say that the minority group was weak and they took money from us, how can people say that?” Amoah questioned.

The Iddrisu-led minority criticized the address as missing in key areas such as Ghana’s outstanding debt, the LGBTQ + issue and incidents of post-election violence.
