“It’s a very, very collaborative process, this one.”
It’s a catch-22 that American entertainment journalists find themselves in. When you’re interviewing an MCU star, you want to ask them about their upcoming MCU movie. But these stars have sworn to such levels of secrecy, they just can’t reveal anything (unless their name is Tom holland, of course). What should be done?
Well if one is our own interview with Steve Weintraub Benedict Cumberbatch for his next spy thriller The mail, he asks if he can question about Marvel – in particular, the upcoming sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Cumberbatch’s response is straightforward, cheeky, and exactly what we all thought, “I mean, we know how much of a dead end it’s going to be, but yeah sure, you can waste your time asking a Marvel question.”
Ultimately, Cumberbatch spoke of his experience in Doctor Strange 2, which “had been running since before Christmas”. Specifically, Cumberbatch highly appreciated the director Sam raimi, who is new to this specific MCU, but is a chief architect of superhero cinema with his 2000s Spider Man trilogy – not to mention his status as a titan of horror cinema. Here’s what the star said about her director:
“Sam, amazing. He’s so collaborative. God, he comes with the baggage of an icon. He’s an incredible strength, especially in this genre. But he’s so humble, he’s so kind, he’s so grateful, you really want to serve him. And boy, when he’s happy you know you’ve done something right. He’s so good at getting you there and getting there. It’s been a very, very collaborative process, this one. . Our origin stories, I guess, and obviously the Beasts were the Avengers movies to be a part of were very exciting, but you’re kind of just for the ride. You do your best with what you do. The second time around, it’s a little over, “So what do you want to do, and how are we going to fix this?” So it’s very creative. Scary sometimes. ”
First, I’m more than delighted to hear Raimi cultivate a friendly and collaborative setting, in addition to being such a talented filmmaker. And secondly, the idea of Raimi giving his casting room to star and collaborate on the set of a big budget superhero sequel – even to the point where Cumberbatch finds it a little creepy – is very, very intriguing.
Check out the full clip of Benedict Cumberbatch gassing his Doctor Strange 2 director Sam Raimi above – at the very least to see Cumberbatch make a big blunder on Frosty in the dying moments. And be on the lookout for our full interview with Cumberbatch soon.
