President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo revealed that his government has started to absorb registration fees for applicants who sit for West African Secondary School Certificate (WASSCE) exams in public schools from the country.
According to the President, the absorption of registration fees for WASSCE is part of several interventions by his government at the high school level.
During his State of the Nation Address (SONA) to Parliament on Tuesday March 9, 2021, President Akufo-Addo said: “The government is facilitating the acquisition of 280,000 laptops for members of the National Association. teachers of Ghana, the National Association of Graduates. Teachers and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers Association. “
He further revealed that the Minister of Education “will soon detail an action plan for the implementation of the national teachers policy”.
President Akufo-Addo added that: “The government has also introduced several interventions at the high school level, some of which are the GHS 198 million academic intervention program dedicated to additional classes for SHS students.
“Implemented free internet connectivity for secondary schools, fully absorbed BECE for all enrollment fees for public college students from 2017 to date, and fully absorbed WASSCE enrollment fees for students,” which started last year. “
The president also revealed that the government, through the West African Examining Board (WAEC), will introduce new measures to tackle poor exam practices among exam candidates in the country.
“A key objective of our efforts to improve the quality of education and ensure that our students become competitive globally is to maintain the integrity of our exams and assessments.
“In this context, the government, working through WAEC, will introduce new measures to reduce examination leaks and malfeasance,” added President Akufo-Addo.
