London: One of Britain’s largest police forces yesterday posted all incidents it deals with for 24 hours on the Twitter site to highlight the amount of work officers have to handle in the face of looming spending cuts.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) began tweeting at 5 a.m., recording incidents of alleged sexual assault against cows on a road and a sleeping man at a bus stop.
“Police departments are often seen in very simple terms, with cops chasing thieves and locking them up. However, the reality is that this is only part of the job they face, ”said GMP Chief Constable Peter Fahy.
“Much of what we do is around social issues such as missing children, people with mental health issues and domestic violence,” the police official said.
“Often times, these incidents can be incredibly complex and require a lot of time, resources and expertise.”
