Moxie director and star Amy Poehler introduces a character she could play in the MCU: Captain Marvel’s sister who closes headquarters at night.
Moxie Director Amy Poehler introduced a new relief comic book character for her to star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Captain marvelthe sister of. The Emmy-winning actress is best known for her time as Saturday Night Live actor and optimist Leslie Knope, the lead character of NBC’s beloved sitcom Parks and recreation. Poehler recently hosted the 2021 Golden Globes with his longtime collaborator Tina Fey, where they used their monologue to criticize the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for its controversial lack of diversity.
Poehler is currently on a press tour to promote his film Moxie, a comedy-drama adapted from the 2015 novel of the same name by Jennifer Mathieu. Netflix’s latest original film stars Hadley Robinson as Vivian Carter, a teenage girl inspired to create her own anonymous Riot Grrrl zine after discovering the rebellious past of his mother as part of the feminist movement. Now in an interview with another SNL alumnus on Late at night with Seth Meyers, she invented a new character to help feminist superhero Captain Marvel, her bossy and responsible sister, Gretchen. Read the full quote below:
“I feel like there is a lot of room in the Marvel Universe for people who could be like helpers. I feel like I could be Brie Larson’s bossy sister who’s not in the business … I feel like there might be someone getting turned on by lasers. Because you never see it. You never see who turns things on and off, who shuts down headquarters at night. “
While Marvel is unlikely to recruit Poehler to turn the lasers on and off, there is certainly plenty of room for comedy icons to play in the MCU sandbox. Not only Silicon ValleyKumail Nanjiani plays a mighty, immortal being in the upcoming Eternals, but Poehler’s comrade Parks and recreation Star Kathryn Hahn recently became one of the MCU’s most memorable villains as evil witch Agatha Harkness in WandaVision. The ant Man Star Paul Rudd even had a memorable ride Parks and recreation as Leslie’s competitor, Bobby Newport, during his campaign for city council.
Obviously, Poehler has some good connections to the Marvel Cinematic Universe through his colleague. Parks and recreation old students. MCU movies are often filled with memorable supporting characters who add comedy and levity to the franchise. Poehler is clearly joking, but with the MCU expanding on Disney + with more experimental shows like What if…? , a new series on background characters is not beyond the realm of possibilities. So if Captain marvel never needs someone to close the seat at night, Marvel knows who to call.
