The new Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Shani Alhassan Shaibu, called for the support and cooperation of senior officials of the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) to achieve the president’s goals and vision for the region.
He said the region has enormous potentials which, if properly harnessed, would contribute to the necessary development in the region.
Award ceremony
Mr Shaibu made the call when he met RCC senior staff at a handover ceremony held in Tamale yesterday to formally introduce him to his role as regional minister for the north.
The new Northern Regional Minister, who described himself as a “workaholic,” told management staff that with teamwork and hard work they would together achieve the goals and targets set for the region.
“I urge you all to do your best to help enhance the image of the region, which is our primary goal for all of us,” he said.
Mr. Shaibu further called for the support and cooperation of everyone in the region, especially chiefs and opinion leaders, to advance the region’s development agenda.
He thanked his predecessor, Mr. Salifu Saeed, for leading the affairs of the region for the past four years and pledged to work hard to maintain the confidence that the chiefs and the people have in the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo -Addo, that he is to represent in the region.

The outgoing Minister of the Northern Region, Mr. Salifu Saeed, for his part congratulated his successor, Mr. Shaibu and urged him to build on the relative peace enjoyed in the region, in particular the restoration of peace and stability in Dagbon to accelerate the development of the Region.
He also took the opportunity to thank the President for giving him the opportunity to fulfill his first term as regional minister.
He also expressed his gratitude to the leaders, religious leaders, the media, members of the regional executive of the ruling party and the opposition for the support he received during his tenure as regional minister and called for the same support and cooperation extended to his successor, including RCC officials.
He urged his successor to continue working hard to maintain the confidence that the leaders and the people have in the government.
