Former Boris Johnson chief adviser Dominic Cummings made scathing remarks about how the Department of Health first responded to the pandemic. In testimony to MPs, he told them it was like a “smoldering ruin in terms of purchases and PPE” last March. He said that was the reason why the PM had taken direct control of the immunization program. The Prime Minister’s official spokesperson dismissed the criticism, saying the goal had always been to protect the NHS and save lives, while Matt Hancock said the vaccine rollout had been “a huge effort by team”.
