The American Human Rights Council (AHRC-USA) joins with all peace-loving people across the country in condemning all hate crimes against Asian Americans. The recent attack on innocent Asian Americans in Atlanta at a spa boutique is one of many recent acts of hatred and violence against Asian Americans.
This act of violence, apparently motivated by anti-Asian biases, is another painful reminder that hatred, violence and extremism continue to grow and continue to put serious challenges on our society on hold. An attack on fellow Americans is an attack on all of us.
This crime is not the first and is unlikely to be the last. These acts of violence and hate deserve and require local and national conversations between all stakeholders and law enforcement. It is a common challenge that obliges us all to work to reduce tensions and fight against bigotry and hatred.
AHRC expresses its condolences to the families of the dead and wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
“We hear about too many acts of discrimination and violence against Asian Americans just because they are Asian and this is unacceptable,” said Imad Hamad, executive director of the AHRC. “With rising tensions with China, we are concerned about more acts of discrimination and hatred,” Hamad added. “We call on our politicians to be careful with their rhetoric and that the Asian American community and law enforcement are vigilant,” Hamad concluded.
