The CLOGSAG fights the SSNIT, accuses it of having acted in bad faith in the payment of the past credit of the retirees

The Ghana Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) accused the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) of acting unprofessionally during ongoing negotiations over the payment of credits passed to retirees in the country.

CLOGSAG insists that SSNIT is bypassing procedures because the committee set up to agree on the credits passed to retirees has yet to agree on the percentage to be paid for retirees.

The association therefore asked its members not to sign any form on their retirement requests.

Speaking to the media, CLOGSAG Executive Secretary Isaac Bampoe said they petitioned the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) about it.

Below is a statement from CLOGSAG on development:

The Ghana Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) spotted a declaration form that should be completed before pension benefits are processed by officials of the Social Security National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).

The form is designed in such a way that it does not allow the pensioner to make a claim afterwards if there are even genuine reasons for the additional payment.

This dishonest practice has just surfaced and we do not know what motivated such a request from SSNIT.

CLOGSAG would like to take this opportunity to advise its members not to complete the “ACCEPTANCE FORM” for the following reasons, namely:

  1. The issue of past credits has not been resolved and the possibility of an additional payment exists.
  2. Lack of synchronization of employer and SSNIT records can also lead to further complaints on SSNIT. It is therefore wrong to force retirees to sign such declaration forms.
  3. Members of the press, the Association believes that during this period of combating the COVID-19 threat, there should no longer be additional stress on retirees.
  4. Let us all join in and say to SSNIT that such practices are wrong and unhealthy. We called on the NPRA to regulate pensions to take action against the SSNIT.
