Lord Huron announced that their new album, Long lost, will be released on May 21. Along with the album announcement, the band also shared the new single “Mine Forever” and the accompanying music video.
“Mine Forever” features intros from period films and old Western imagery. Set in the 1950s, the music video features sessions, beaches, and cowboys. Lord Huron’s instrumentals match Western imagery, vocals slipping as the back-up dancer’s groove and acoustic guitars sing. Each face is blurred, giving a Lord Huron touch to vintage images. “In my mind, you are mine forever,” they repeat throughout the song, twangs singing throughout the song as stories of grief and work to hold onto each other are told.
In addition to the announcement of the new track and album, the group’s latest character, Tubbs Tarbell, wrote a letter describing the creation of Long lost. Speaking in one of the studio sessions, Tarbell wrote: “The Hurons went on for a bit longer that day, but I must have drifted from a peaceful bond into something of a slumber. cosmic, with my tune – all tunes, in fact, as they were all mine now – janglin ‘heavy and happy in my heart. When I woke up, the light of the next day was just starting to creep in the pines, and I was alone. I stood up, stretched my creaky back, scraped off some thatch. As I turned to grab my starting hat, something caught my eye: A hand-scratched note attached to a faded vinyl record sleeve lay on the floor.
The next Long lost follows Lord Huron’s 2018 album, Black Void. The same year, the group released a new version of their hit song “The Night We Met” for the Netflix series, 13 reasons why, with the group inviting Phoebe Bridgers to participate on the track. Bridgers then joined the band on stage in 2019 to perform the track at the Hollywood Bowl.
