Lawrence Okolie hit the scale at 199.4 lbs, just below the cruising weight limit of 200 lbs and considerably heavier than his 195.8 lbs opponent Krzysztof Glowacki, on the eve of their battle for the WBO Championship. Vacant cruiserweight in the Main Event of the Last Matchroom Boxing Card at the SSE Arena, Wembley.

Rio 2016 Olympian Okolie, undefeated as a pro, is taller and has a much longer reach than the Polish fighter, who held that same belt until he was controversially dethroned by Mairis Briedis in the World Boxing Super Series in 2019.

Nonetheless, the Londoner made a rather reserved figure on the stage during and after the weigh-in, and he admitted in a subsequent interview that he was not part of the platform that many boxers take part in before a big fight.

“I don’t see the point in making long downcast glances,” he explained. “I don’t get any additional benefit from it.

“All that matters is my game plan for Saturday, how well he takes my punches and how hard I take his.

Okolie is expected to transition to heavyweight at some point in his promising professional career, but has maintained cruising weights is no problem as he aims for his first world title.

He said, “I love food and I can carry extra weight, but when it comes to gaining weight I train hard and I am disciplined.”

As main support, Joe Cordina makes his long-awaited return to the ring and hopes to put several nagging issues with his hand behind him as he takes on Faroukh Kourbanov.

The super featherweight battle will be fought at an agreed catch weight of 133 pounds, as opposed to the division’s usual limit of 130 pounds, and the Welshman has taken full advantage of the leeward weigh-in as he looks to get rid of ring rust with a reading of 132.4 pounds to the 130.5 pounds of the Kyrgyzstan hunter.
