Government ready to help integrate diasporas | General news

As part of efforts to improve the development of the country, the government has pledged its unwavering commitment to support people of African descent who wish to come and settle in Ghana.

This is to encourage them to return home to use their skills and add value to the socio-economic growth of the country.

Ms. Naomi Adjei Konadu, Member of Parliament for Apewosika Electoral Region in Abura-Asebu-Kwamankesse District (AAK), announced it during the first edition of the Pan-African Conference Series organized by the University of excellence obokese (OUE) in Cape Coast.

The Conference on the theme “The State of the Black Nation” will be organized once a month to encourage political and economic integration among member states and to help eradicate colonialism and neocolonialism from the African continent.

She said the government is actively seeking to take advantage of the competitive advantage by attracting and establishing a mutual relationship with the African diaspora community.

It was also an opportunity to enable a cross-fertilization of ideas, political guidance and the implementation of strategies to make Africa more attractive as a destination for tourism, trade and investment, especially for the African diaspora community.

She said the government will ensure that the repatriated African diaspora invest their resources and expertise to boost the economy.

“When the government supports the African diaspora, it will invest its money, its finances amounting to billions of dollars in the economy and improve national development,” she noted.

Ms Konadu assured that stakeholders are working tirelessly for Africa to become productive and prosperous, but this can only be achieved when the African diaspora return and support with their knowledge and experience gained.

She welcomed the government’s intervention in the organization of the “Year of Return” project, adding that “what we want is for you to be integrated into Ghanaian society”.

The MP for Apewosika, said Ghanaian citizens should not see the return of diasporas as a threat, stressing that “Africans in the diaspora do not come here to illegal mining or exploit resources, but come to invest to strengthen national development ”.
