Information reaching the DAILY GUIDE indicates that on March 18, 2021, a traffic accident occurred near Sawla, the capital of the district of Tuna-Sawla-Kalba constituency of Bole-Bamboi municipality in the region of Savannah.

DAILY GUIDE found that the accident left eight people dead; 6 of them died on the spot, followed by two others later, who died on admission to hospital.

It was claimed that a fallen “hash box” was the cause of the crash.

Among the dead were a 28-year-old Bashiru Mahama, the companion of the driver of the crashed vehicle, a Sprinter Benz bus with registration number AS 3022-15.

The bodies of the deceased passengers have since been transported and deposited in the mortuary of the Wa Regional Hospital; while injured passengers, including the driver of the Benz bus, received treatment at the Sawla District Hospital.

A Sawla Police report said on March 18, 2021, a Mahama Sakara, driver of a Sprinter Benz bus with registration number AS 3022-15, reported to Sawla Police that he was traveling from Wa towards Kumasi. He alleged that on the outskirts of Sawla, a Ssanyoung Mimi bus passed his vehicle. During the passing, a “chop-box” fell from the Ssanyoung, landing in its lane.

Mr Sakara said he could not avoid running over the “chopper” with his front tire, which exploded, causing him to lose control of the steering of his vehicle. His Sprinter Benz bus pulled off the road and crashed headlong into a nearby bush.

Sawla Police have since confirmed that they have opened investigations to determine the actual cause of the crash.
